You are probably dying to have new clothes – you have been wishing on several fashion items that have been included into your list – and yet, you don’t have much to spare. Don’t worry; you can always go shopping on a budget, as long as you know how.
Clear out the Closet
The first thing you need to do before going shopping to clear out your closet first. I have a friend who made a silly mistake when she decided to go on a shopping spree without making any plans ahead – well, she was ecstatic because she just got a new credit card from her dad. Anyway, she went for a whole day on a shopping spree and returned home with loads of stuff. She found out that her closet was filled, so she decided to clear it out. It turned out that she had already owned the things she bought on the shopping spree. For instance, she bought a wraparound dress from the Banana Republic, while she already had one – although from Calvin Klein – stashed in her closet. It wasn’t just one item, but several items altogether! You can imagine how much money she could save if she had cleared out the closet first.
Just to make things clear; cleaning out your closet has some its own perks and benefits. First of all, you may find hidden gems that you have totally forgotten about. Let’s face it, a lot of us have done that, right? We buy things and then we stashed it deep inside the closet and then forget about it. Second, you may find old clothes that you can transform. My sister does this, and she comes with cool fashion items that no one has. Third, you can make new rooms for the new clothes. How can you keep them when your closet is still crowded with the old items?
Still related to the cleaning out the closet, don’t be afraid of doing DIY works. Not only it will work fine with your old stuff, it is also great for the new items you buy. If you are on a tight budget, why not shopping on the second-hand store, flea market, or garage sale? My sister likes to go on this kind of fashion hunting spree, and she always manages to get cool stuff at very low price. She manages to get cool scarves – $1 for 4 items, and she turns them into various fashion items that can be worn or included in the bag.
There are also other possibilities that you can try:
- Shop when they offer discounts. Some stores have their own schedules for clearance sale, so be aware of it. It doesn’t hurt to subscribe to their newsletter, so you will always be informed.
- Shop when it is out of season. You probably think that the clothes won’t be in anymore, but if you choose the basic, must-have items, you can actually enjoy a great bargain.
- Go to the nearest outlet store. You don’t have to do it when there are discounts. If you look carefully and closely, such outlet stores like to have their ‘hidden’ treasures. You can find high quality (but inexpensive) items being hidden and tucked away among other stuff.
