Placement is Key
This is arguably the most important aspect of Feng Shui. Finding the perfect place for your furniture is tricky. It is ideal to place couches against the wall facing the door. People prefer to have an immediate view of the door and know what is behind them. That makes against the wall facing the door the best option for your sofa. Good feng shui means that there is a constant flow in your home. This means the continuous movement of energy is ideal, so your furniture placement should be easily accessible and open. People should not have a difficult time getting places in your home. This applies to all of the rooms in your home.
Shapes and Colors
Color is one of the first things you notice when you walk into a home. There is not necessarily a wrong color, but the color does set the tone in each room. For example yellow brings a bright warm feeling to your home. Red, which is the strongest color, brings the feelings of joy and passion. Choosing the color of your home is an aspect of feng shui where you are able to make it very personal to your own aesthetic. It is good to make the color of your home something that reflects you and the feeling you want for your home.
Shapes are important as well. It is best to have a variety of shapes in your house because they represent the elements. For example circles represent mental, triangles signify fire and squares represent earth. Each shape represents an element and the more balance you have with the shapes in your home the better your feng shui will be. For example a circle table and square picture frames. Shapes are also a great way to add character and depth to your home.
Curtains, blinds and window cover is very important for feng shui. Windows can let in and out energy, so curtains are key. You want curtains that are able to cover the entire window to keep out the bad energy (nighttime) but are also easily opened to let in the good energy (daytime). Quality curtains can day to day influence the energy of your home.
Air and light are main contributors to the energy of your home so being able to regulate those factors is very important. Opening the windows and giving your home a fresh outdoor feeling is optimal. Introducing plants to your home is beneficial as well. Plants are able to absorb light and nutrients so they can add to the positive energy in your home.
Clutter and messiness are not good for feng shui. It brings disorganization and bad flow into your house. Removing unnecessary clutter is an easy way add positive vibes to your home. Determining what you need to get rid of can be the hard part. Figure out what things will add to the positive energy and what will take away from the good feelings in your home. If you don’t need it get rid of it, it is clouding the good feelings anyway. This is a simple yet necessary step if attaining good flow in your home. If you change other aspects of your home but fail to declutter it can impact the energy and Chi in your home.
Decoration can be tricky. You want to add character to your home, but you don’t want to clutter your space. The best rule of thumb is to surround yourself with items of meaning. You want decorations in your home to reflect positive feelings. Things like pictures of family and friends are usually a great addition to your home. You want your favorite item or token to be in a spot that you will see very quickly when you walk into your home. This will immediately make you feel good when you come in the door and your good energy will come with you.
You can also change your decorations often so you have a flow in your home. If you have flowers for a while and then you change them to a present you got from a friend it keeps your home flowing. That way you maintain the beauty in your home, but the decorations don’t become stagnant and old. It is a good idea to cycle through decorations so you are able to keep your home energy fresh and flowing. If your decorations have no deeper meanings then they become clutter and you should switch it out.
Starting with small changes like decluttering and rearranging can add a new positive energy in your home and from there you can continue to add larger elements to bring your home together. Not every arrangement will work for every person. It is important to make your home personal and unique to yourself. Don’t be afraid to try new styles and looks for your space. By doing this, you can eventually find the perfect feng shui for your home.
