So, you want to start wearing makeup but you are totally clueless about it….What should you do, then? Instead of wasting money to buy stuff that you won’t use in the end, why not understanding the basic principles of applying makeup? There are some basic tips that you can try when you want to try applying makeup.
Understand Your Skin Tone
The first thing that you need to understand is to know your own complexion and skin tone. Not everyone has the perfect skin tone that will deliver perfect result when makeup is applied. You need to have your face cleaned completely so you know which dark circles you have, whether your skin has redness, or which uneven areas you have. Once you know which areas to cover, you can start choosing the right products.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
No matter what kind of skin type you have (oily, dry, or normal), moisturizing it is important. You can use a kind of spray to refresh and moisturize your face altogether. However, I also like to apply a liquid moisturizer because I have a rather dry skin. You can choose oil-based moisturizer if you have dry skin, and water based moisturizer if you have oily skin.
Foundation, Primer, and Concealer
Applying these three things will be an important base for your makeup. Foundation will make your skin tone even while primer will make your makeup long lasting. Concealer can be used to hide dark spots such as panda eyes or acne scars. However, you don’t need to apply them all if you don’t want to. Sometimes I use the three items, but sometimes I only choose one or two. Foundation is a must because I have the severe uneven skin issue. I sometimes use concealer when I have acne or panda eyes, but not always.
You have the flexibility to apply these items with brushes, your fingers, or sponges. My sister likes using sponges for the application because she doesn’t like her hands dirty and she feels that sponges help her even out the foundation better. I myself like using my fingers. Somehow, it feels more solid and real. Some friends of mine like to use brushes. Whatever method you choose, be sure to use high-quality brushes or sponges. Invest your money in good items.
Don’t forget to always blend in everything that you have applied. After you apply contours, blusher, or powder, make sure to use the high-quality brush to blend everything in, so the result will be natural. Pay attention to proportion and don’t use too much – contour, highlights, blush – or you will overdo things and look silly, instead.
Choose the Right Colors
If you want to wear the makeup on day’s activities and you want to look natural, stick to light colors, such as peach, pink, and light brown. But if you want to wear the makeup on night’s activities and you want to have a glam look, you can choose darker and glam colors, like gold, gray, or dark brown. Still, you need to make sure that the proportion is right and don’t overdo it.
