Some of the Species
It is impossible to name all the species of air plants, but you should definitely do your research and find which ones are your favourites. The most colourful ones are Ionantha Peanut, Capitata Rubra, Chlorophylla and Abdita Red Form. Also, there many species with beautiful flowers like Albertiana and Bergeri. Some of the species are really small and cute, and some of them reach much bigger sizes. Choose your favourites and arrange them in different bowls and planters for achieving the look you always wanted.
Taking Care of Air Plants
Air plants or Tillandsias differ from regular plants you have in your home or garden. Their greatest advantage is that they do not require as much care as other plants, but that does not mean no care at all. Many people are misled by their name and think that they do not need water. On the contrary, Tillandsias need as much water as possible, even though they are able to survive droughts. The best way for them to obtain water is through their leaves, and if you leave them outside they could do just so during rainy and foggy days.
Lighting and Temperature
Bright light for your air plants is perfect, as long as it does not burn them. If you grow air plants outdoors, you should hang them under a tree or some other shady spot, since direct sunlight can damage them. Indoors, these exotic plants like sitting right next to the window and a preferable temperature for air plants is between 50 and 60 degrees F (10-15 degrees C).
Since these plants are tiny and delicate, their fertilizer should not be strong. You should use soluble fertilizer at ¼ of the strength that is specified on the label only once a month and your plants will be alright. Also, if you are growing them in an aquarium or a pond, they do not need additional fertilizing since they get enough of a natural one.
To decorate your garden and introduce some character, you should show off your new little friends in trendy hanging baskets. Hang them from a tree or on your patio, and for more lush and artsy look the experts for contemporary garden design recommend adding a few empty copper planters hanging around the baskets.
Anything that is miniature is automatically cute. Just like your air plants. You should put them in mini planters of different shapes. You can go with animal shapes, such as birds or try out some geometrical shapes. This decoration is perfect for coffee tables on your deck or on a cabinet in your entryway.
These ultra-cool hangers are easy to make and can take any shape you want. They are perfect for spicing up your living room, or decorating your porch. With cute air plants in them, they bring life back to any lonely corner of your home.
Since Tillandsias can survive on any surface (sand, pebbles, rocks and dirt) they look perfect in both big and small terrariums. Mix things up a bit, and put sand and dirt on an iron tray and plant cacti and air plants together and make perfect coffee table terrarium for your living room. Also, a glass bowl can make a great terrarium, especially if you fill it with colourful pebbles and put your favourite air plant among them. You can even decorate a little with some starfish or seashells and get the most exotic look out of your plants.
Group several glass spheres on your patio or in the garden, and plant cute air plants inside and get your own miniature hanging garden. You can even choose different shapes of glass bowls and make it fun and elegant. Hang them by colourful threads or even make the very bowls in different colours and you can also have unique Christmas decoration this year.

Wherever they are, new vibrant energy will instantly show and you will give your home a whole new atmosphere. Besides their good looks, they clean the air and bring health and happiness. Take good care of them, water them at least twice a week and Tillandsias will look even better than your regular domestic plants.
