For many men, losing their hair is a concern and can be a worry. Some men will take steps to try and prevent or cure hair loss but unfortunately, far too many men are not aware of the real causes of hair loss and therefore, try a range of “fixes” that aren’t likely to help at all. A recent carried out by LloydsPharmacy shows that a third of London men thought that stress is the main cause of hair loss. The truth is that stress causes hair loss in very rare cases and is much more likely to be caused by genetics.
In fact, genetics is the most common cause of hair loss and can lead to what’s called male pattern baldness. It can be passed on by both sides of your family and despite some men believing otherwise, it can be treated with prescription tablets. These are called Finasteride and can help stop hair loss in up to 90% of men.
Another myth is that wearing a hat can cause hair loss. The truth is that wearing a hat doesn’t cause hair loss so if you do wear a hat and notice your hair thinning, dumping the hat isn’t going to help things. Instead, you should see your Doctor and see what treatments are available for your particular type of hair loss.
Despite hats not causing hair loss, another fashion trend can do – wearing your hair in a very tight bun can sometimes damage the roots which can lead to hair loss. To help prevent this, try not to damage your roots by taking a break from the man bun and using good quality shampoo and conditioners.
To try and help men understand the true causes of hair loss, we put together the infographic below which outlines 7 reasons for hair loss as well as how to fix them.
