When you want to transform your personal living space, you don’t always need a lot of money or extra efforts. In fact, there are some simple tricks and tips that you can do without breaking the bank. After all, the simplest things often make the greatest and most impressive impact. Do you realize that you can transform a look of a room just by adding a painting or moving the furniture?
In case you have small rooms, you can always paint them in light and soft colors. When you use darker colors, you only make the room seem smaller and more cramped. You can combine the soft colors with mirrors and big windows. The addition of natural lights will make the diy bedroom decor feel and look bigger. Remember, the main palette should be light colors; only use dark colors as accents.
Still related to the first tips, you can also make use of decorative mirrors to add light. Mirrors can deliver very good optical illusions – that’s why some people use full-size mirrors. But do you know that mirrors are also good for any rooms that lack natural lights? Simply place the mirrors right across the windows – it would be better if you have big windows where lights can come pouring in – and you can add natural lights in the simplest way.
The third tip is to mix up. Don’t hesitate to mix up and combine textures, patterns, inexpensive and expensive stuff, or old and new stuff. Is it okay to place the modern couch right next to the family heirlooms? Of course it is! After all, your home decor should reflect who you are, what you like, and what your style is. Don’t doubt to place your plain leather ottoman with furry patterned rugs. It is your style; feel free to do anything with it!

Don’t forget to add life into your rooms; do add plants. Of course, you need to be clever about the sizing and the placement. Bigger and taller plants are good for the corners while smaller potted plants can be used as centerpieces or you can place them along the windows. Plants create their own look, atmosphere, and textures. But remember not to put any plants in your bedroom. You don’t want to compete with them in getting the oxygen at night.

The fifth one is to wallpaper or paint the bookcases. This may look simple, but you will be amazed of how drastic the transformation will be! The effect will be immediate if you are able to choose contrast color to the wall. For instance, if you paint your wall in yellow, painting the bookshelf in midnight blue will cause serious dramatic effect – in a good way, of course. After all, you can make your bookshelf as the focal point. Other places to consider are to paint the hallways, ceilings, insides of your closets, or the fireplace mantels.
The final one is to use area rugs if you have hardwood floors. Hardwood floors are tough, solid, and sturdy, but they also have this distinctive hard look. If you want to soften the look, while adding texture, colors, and warmth, feel free to use area rugs. Different shapes or colors can be used to divide areas while adding styles into the room in the simplest way.
