Here are ways in which you can mix and match patterns for decorating your wall to achieve a more vibrant and lively feel in your room.
Figure out your color scheme
The first big challenge is to be able to find a color palette that best suits the room. Before you even think of the kinds of patterns you will incorporate on your wall, make sure that you know the color scheme that you want to use.
You can choose bright or bold colors, and maybe want an accent or two to create a rhythm or contrast with your main color scheme. Some people may be hesitant to try this out, but you can always choose monochromatic colors, or even a black and white theme and still be able to incorporate mixed patterns.
Experiment with multiple patterns
You may choose to incorporate patterns using the selected color in bold prints, or customized paint rollers.
To make sure that you don’t overdo the color scheme, pick a color that can contrast with some of the patterns you’ve already chosen. For instance, for a wall that has a neutral color as a base, you may want to use bold colored prints for contrast. It’s best to take it easy with the number of patterns that you’re going to use. You can start by using three different patterns first, and if you’re not satisfied, try adding just one or two more. Make use of print patterns, paint patterns, or solid hangings to be able to add texture to your wall decor.
For multiple patterns, make sure the combinations will be done in a way that has room for your eyes to rest. Using the bold-on-neutral example, you can put a large print in the middle where the color is neutral so your eyes can look at it when it needs to rest; then you can surround that large print with bold colored designs.
Check out different scale patterns
The thing is, even if you have an excellent combination of colors, it can still look bleak if the magnitude of the patterns is all the same, and this goes for any kind of combination. Make sure that large-scale patterns mingle with medium and small-scale prints. The reason behind this is to make the room even more welcoming and comfortable to look at. When you’re decorating, look at it from a distance so that you’ll get an idea of how your combinations will look like teen bedroom ideas.
Make sure the colors blend perfectly
We’ve been talking about finding the best color combinations for your room, but remember that they don’t need to be perfectly matched to each other. The challenge here is to be able to choose colors that blend beautifully together. This means you might have to test it out through color swatches. Some colors don’t look good theoretically, but actually, they blend perfectly well.
Get inspiration from various interests or hobbies
Probably the best way to make sure that you’ve incorporated the right patterns of colors, hangings, and paint on your wall is if you have something to base it off of, like your interests. If you love traveling or reading books, incorporate themes on your wall patterns that show that. For instance, you can hang a very artsy print of a map in the middle of the wall, intermingled with medium or small-scale designs of planes, boats, travel trinkets you can hang, to perfectly show that side of your personality that loves going.
These are some of the basic tips on how you can mix and match patterns on your wall without it becoming too overpowering or too bleak. Discover color combinations and patterns you can use that have never been done before. Happy decorating!
