Inside Indigo 1745

I wanted to share Indigo 1745 with you guys. It’s a store here in Dallas in the heart of Bishop Arts District filled with denim, and other stylish threads. I recently stopped by to conduct an interview for a magazine, and fell in love instantly. The styling of this store has that urban, eclectic, shabby chic feeling with warm dark woods, and eye catching blues. The owner Denise Manoy advised the concept of the store was one that she and her husband designed. When I initially asked the question about the décor, I was expecting a response that would lead me to a designers portfolio, but its their brainchild which literally had me staring like a kid in a candy store.

There were small touches like clothes laid over a bed, or socks being displayed within the nooks of a wine rack, bags hung from chairs. Very impractical, and right. If your ever in the area, be sure to stop by.

My Holiday Wish List 2010

wish

The above are a few of the items that are on my wish list. I have ordered the books, and have two. Just waiting on one. The others are really wishes, and hopes.

I love the look of this IPAD case. I have yet to case my IPAD because I want the perfect one that makes me happy. No basic black for this girl. I want something that says, GET IT GIRL! The GAP trousers to me are simple, but the cropped leg gives it that extra something and allows for a great shoe. I have wanted a deer head for a while, and I think the one Z Gallerie has is the perfect size. On the art. I love the turquoise of the Miami piece, but the love of the Dallas one. I have watched those sheets, and watched those sheets. Something about a grey stripe on a bed says style. I am a HUGE fan of Jay Z for many reasons. I bore you guys with the details. But I will say that the epilogue is great with mentions of Oprah. She gave his book away as a favorite thing the other day, and mentioned that she was closed minded when it came to hip hop which a lot of people are. This book offers great  insight from one of the best. Who doesn’t like some Khloe, Kourtney, and Kim? I am ready to see exactly what this book is all about. The ELLEMENTS of Personal Style is by far one of my favorite books of the year. There is insight into the home of 25 celebrities. Of my favorite are Tracee Ellis Ross, Dita Von Teese, and Fatima Robinson. The reader gets to view photos of their home, and personal style items. It’s a must have for any woman that loves décor, and fashion. Seriously. I hope to work on a giveaway for this book. I love it so.

The crossed fingers are just that. I cross my fingers, pray, and think…all things great for me, and my dreams of living and doing what I love. Life is short. Enjoy it.

Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful Burlesque, by OPI

I was sent the latest 2010 Holiday Collection Burlesque, by OPI. These colors are beautiful, and give your nails that fun punch needed to be seen. If you like fun, and bling. The glittered collection is the one for you. If you go for a more toned down look, but still like a ding of color, then go with the non glittered. Either way, you cant lose. I enjoyed playing around with the colors to see which looked best on my skin tone. Below are my favorites out of the collection. Sorry…I couldn't help myself. You can also “try on” tons of OPI colors on their website as well, which allows you to adjust the skin tone. Fun, and interactive.

*Excuse the nails. I have been crazy busy, but wanted to be sure they were posted prior to Thursday for all you ladies that love polish. If the color looks like this on my nails, just image how fab the color would look on yours.*

Man Cave

I put this look together for the man that loves being a man, without falling into trends. Warm, yet hard with the steel credenza, and yet texturized with the feel of the wool rug and linen lamp shade. All this man needs is a flat screen, good scents, and a good woman to remind him to keep it clean. I’m a bit silly huh? (Laughing)

Hammocks & High Tea

I was introduced to Karen Young's talent, the mastermind behind Hammocks & High Tea while in NY for the Nate show. Although we didn’t get a chance to meet face to face, I am in love with her designs. The name alone is one that adheres to my mind. But the product is one that I felt the need to share. Beautiful patterns, and relaxing scents are a staple of every home worthy of the word. With a variety of items sold, there is something for everyone that wants that Hammocks & High Tea look in their home. The store currently sells napkins, sachets, pillows, tea towels, placements, and linen spray to name a few. Karen is passionate about her business, and doing what she loves. I am inspired, and I hope you are to. For more info, and to shop. Please go here.

Can you give my readers a little background on Hammocks and High Tea?

Hammocks & High Tea was dreamed up about three years ago while I was still working as an account executive in the fashion industry. I wanted to bring a sense of my unique take on global style and trends to the market, in a way that could fit into anyone's home. My family and childhood spent in South America exposed me to a mix of cultures and I see style the same way. Blend it and it will work.

Where did the name come from?

The name is an homage to my family and my upbringing in Guyana, S.A. The story is familiar; the country is a blend of everything that it has ever encountered, French, Dutch, British, Spanish and Indian to name a few. The fact that a cobblestone street led to the beach or the intricate architecture was painted in bold azure, or hot pink, always fascinated me. At the end of the day I would come home from school to have "supper" and our palm trees were strung with lights on the front lawn for Christmas..which was 90 degrees. Hammocks (carib) & High Tea (british) means a literal blending of culture.

Why home goods?

I thought for a long time that I wanted to get into fashion but realized that the trends moved too quickly for my concept. I want to create things that will have a sense of heirloom. I imagine that a young girl can raid her grandmother's linen closet in 20 years and find one of our patterns in a well worn and loved tea towel.

What was your original vision and goal for your product?

My original vision and goal has thankfully remained the same for the company. To create items that people will find useful, beautiful, and of quality. I am influenced most greatly by antique textiles. The fact that they are still here, still beautiful, and still find their way into the most modern of spaces.

What makes Hammock and High Tea different from the rest?

My vision, history, and concept belongs to me. Therefore everything I create is authentic. Hammocks & High Tea  is a brand as well as a story.

Was there a plan B?

No. I'm open to following forks in this road but there has never been a plan B.

What advice would you offer women who have hopes of becoming successful entrepreneurs?

-My first bit of advice would be to not do it unless you absolutely love it. You will sleep & breathe it for a long time so it must sustain you in other ways or you will divert when it gets tough.

-I would also suggest becoming part of a network of other women business owners. I've recently discovered the power of this and it's invaluable to exchange ideas, and just be able to talk frustrations out with others who have similar experiences. Twitter has also been amazing for this, the community of creative women business owners there is phenomenal.

One wish for Hammocks and High Tea?

I wish to create a business that maybe one day my son or daughter would be proud of and possibly call their own. No pressure though.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now with the line?

I would love to have a collection of sustainable furniture, a blend of vintage items and pieces made from eco sources in the Caribbean.

My Friday In Photos

Last Friday it rained, and rained here in Dallas. I tweeted that the rain was so hard that it felt like it was coming into my house. And then all of a sudden the rain stops, and the sun came shining again. Live in Texas I guess? This is my friends second appearance on the blog. We always have the greatest times, and blog worthy.

We started out shopping at GAP @ Mockingbird station. Trying on some legging jeans, and then deciding on buying them. We then moved on to Urban Outfitters where I bought the cutest Coke glasses for $2.99. My friend then got the hungry bug, and off to Urban Taco we went. This was my first trip to Urban Taco, and it was good to me. Hot, cheesy, and hearty. Next up. West Elm. I love shopping there as it is, but this time I walked away with a white convex mirror for my dinning area. I was in the market for one, and was pleased to see it apart of their new collection at a great price ($39 large, $29 small) . Below are a few pictures of lunch, and what I bought.

What I bought, and so happy that I did.

stirrup jeans from GAP, convex mirror from West Elm, pattern plates from West Elm, and Coke glasses from Urban Outfitters.

*I have to give a review on these jeans. I wish I was wearing them to show a photo. I love them. The stirrup at the bottom means they wont be shifting around, should I wear boots. They fit really nice, and form a great shape on the body. Below is just ONE way, I would rock these. Add a simple tank, and your look is EDGY CHIC.
