Get It Girl Style Spotlight: sfgirlbybay

It has been a while, and here is a new one. A special one! The top blogger, Victoria of sfgirlbybay. What can I say. There is no other like her. When reading her blog, its like actually reading a magazine only online. I have found many great finds from her interviews, and ad links that I would have never ran across. And when you see those famous KEEP CALM and CARRY ON prints, they are her creations. SURPRISED? NOT! She was gracious enough to take time out of her busy life to answer a few GET IT GIRL STYLE questions. I hope you enjoy the interview.

1.) What are blog turnoffs for you? My biggest turnoff on a blog, is the blog per se, but a lot of negative, snarky commenting. I find it unproductive and petty.

2.) What made you start blogging, and what keeps you here? I started the blog on more or less a whim, and just a place to post photos of my constantly changing interiors. It was really just as just a hobby for me and I did it at night after work. But I got into it right away and would want to post every day. Doing the blog I found encompasses my three big loves: photography, writing & design. I had my apartment featured on one of Apartment Therapy's House Tours, so that drove a lot of traffic to the site, and that's kind of how it all started to become a real, daily blog with readers.

3.) Is there anything that you would change about your blog or hope to add? I am actually in the process of a site redesign which should launch in Feb. It will be much more organized, and easily searchable by categories, like Vintage, Accessories, Home Furnishings etc. and will have a new look and feel. I've been wanting to do this for a long while now.

4.) Out of all of your posts, which post is your favorite and why? I love doing the Unexpected Guests House Tours. It's fun to get the Q&A back and discover new things about the home owner, and to discover new artists, blogs, and shops that are their favorites.

5.) Who is your favorite tv home design personality and why? I don't own a TV, so I'm not very current on home show personalities, but my very favorite is Todd Oldham. I met him at a book signing, and he couldn't have more generous with his time, allowing lots of questions from the group, and he seemed very genuine and interested in promoting craftiness, and DIY.

6.) If you could design and sell something what would it be, and where would you want it sold? Well I print my version of the Keep Calm & Carry On poster in my etsy shop and I quite enjoy doing that. I always wanted to design textiles and sell fabrics, but not sure I'll have time to get to that! I'd love to sell them at Purl Soho - they carry beautiful fabrics.

7.) Favorites: color, personal item, household item, retail store, household store, blog, website? My favorite color is probably white. No kidding. I like white's Scandinavian feel and it's a great base for adding color.
Favorite household item is probably by Eames Rocker. Favorite retail store would be Anthropologie - for clothes and home design items. Favorite household store - Nest on Fillmore Street in SF. Blog - I love Poppytalk - Jan does a great job of curating etsy finds. Favorite website is probably flickr.

8.) Where do you do most of your blogging? (room, work) At home...all day and into the night.

9.) Favorite magazine, design book? Well, I loved Domino, but it's going. So I'd say Living Etc. from the UK, and I like Real Living from Australia. I love Amy Butler's Midwest Modern book - it's a great eclectic guide to design.

10.) Least favorite home decor style? Southwestern...it's very aged looking to me.

11.) Is there a question, email, or comment from bloggers sent to you that made you say HUH? Well, I've been asked about wedding planning, and I'm single, so those are challenging questions. Or I've been asked how someone should decorate their home without seeing photos or existing furnishings. That's always s bit tough to answer.

Blog Cliques, fact or fiction?

Okay, so I wondered if they were real, or just something I thought about. Then I decided to do a google on "Blog Cliques" and bammmm! There were many articles done on this very subject. This blogger posted a rather long post on some childish mess going on in the blog world that really tripped me out. Like are people for real? Most bloggers dont get paid a dime to do this everyday. There is either some type of passion they have, something they want to document, or just do it for fun! And to be real, the fellow blogger doesnt "know" the next from a can of paint, really. I found another article that really hit the nail on the head. I have been apart of forums that had cliques, but never thought twice about defining it as such until now. I have had to leave forums because I dont put up with that kind of shit, and cant stand "keyboard bad asses". Meaning people that get a chance to be "bad" and bossy online because in their real life they cant be.

Defined: A clique (IPA:/'klɪk/ in America, /'kliːk/ elsewhere) is an exclusive group of people who share interests, views, purposes, patterns of behavior, or ethnicity.
1] A clique as a reference group can be either normative or comparative.
I say play nice. There are to many blogs and forums out there to count. I am in aww of great blogs I run across everyday, and think wow...And occasionally I will get an email from someone saying the same about my blog. There is enough room for everyone, TRUST ME!
And as sfgirlbybay would say..KEEP CALM and CARRY ON!

The Girl Is BAD A$$

whatHEloves is one of the most creative divas I have seen! Maybe its because her work is all me. In my mind I get dressed up like these girls, but I feel everybit as a diva like them without the clothes. She is creating customer pieces for me, meaning CHIC BLACK CHICKS. I will use them as art in my office/glam room and as stationery for when I am feeling nice. If you love great art, check out her Etsy shop. Not only is she great at what she does, but she has a love and passion for it. Her excitement made me excited!

This planner is great, and it has pockets!

Who would not want to take notes on these!

The folders are HOT, and the message book! Uhhhhh, perfecto.

Moving On...First Up, THE CHAIR

First up will be the PINK CHAIR. Peace be with me, because I have no clue as to what pattern or color I want. Silk, Velvet, Stripes, Jacquard? I dont know if I want to darken the wood, or leave it original. My Grandfather bought these pieces for my Granny when my Mother was child, and she is 50 now. So they are really antique to me. Not to mention she loved her set, and I just want to do them justice and bring back the beauty that they once had. We will be dropping the furniture of Saturday. Any ideas or suggestions?

Finds and Buys

Here are my latest finds at Homegoods. The mirror was much needed as a project for what is behind it on the wall. The green ribbon caught my eye because it matches my office. I can use it to add small touches here and there, and at $2.99 I was not leaving it behind. The pen was $14.99 and I love it. The color reflects light so well. It reminds me of gem globes, so I think the pen has pieces of natural stone. The butterfly print....man....I have a story and history of butterflies. I left this print 4 times and walked in today and it was sitting all alone just waiting for me. The bamboo ladder is really fly. Its a darrrrrk color and seems to fall in to line with my Zgallerie wood screen. The zebra print towels are a steal. They went super fast. I looked up and one lady bought all of the hand towels so honey I got me one, plus a bath towel. I also bought a black shower curtain and black bath rug. The red towels are waiting for their shining moment.

Mannequin Forms

I am so happy. I have placed my order and paid for my form. He is making it pinnable for me so that I can have even more fun with it. $62.00 is the going rate for the pinnable form with the black stand, or $52.00 unpinnable with black stand (all prices includes shipping). I did my homework and his prices are damn good. I am excited, and this will look so great in my office. Its all ME! Cick here to visit his ebay store.

Below are other options made available, plus a world of many others. The last one shows where he will sell you a form, plus you get 6 different color changes for your form.

Who cares!

Enough SAID!

Happy Birthday Dr. King (January 15)

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be so happy if he were here to celebrate his birthday this year! Unfortunately he didn't get to the promise land with us, but he can be proud, and know that we made it as a human race because of him. The next few days are so important to this country for several reasons. I wont get all mushy and gushy in this blog, but I am so happy and I wish Dr. King could celebrate with us on Tuesday. I thank him for his life. Its because of his life and death that I am able to live free enough to blog to millions of people all over the world. Black, White, Latino, Indian, Asian, and many others. This is not just a day off of work and school, but a day of thanks if only for a minute to say Thank You Dr. King for the ultimate sacrafice. I wish you a Happy Birthday, and look for more of your wonderful blessings to come.

Help me!

You cant see the writing in red because I couldnt get the picture big enought. What do I do with this wall. The small box with the arrow is where the rip came from after trying to take them down. Should I leave them up and cover them with a big something? Leave them up? I just dont know. I really need help in deciding. What would you do?

The Small Things Count

Well here are the small things I was talking about in my blah post. It took me a while but I made this collage and I really love it. I had been wanting to do one for my daughter a long time ago and never did so this one is for me.

Now the other small things I put together were with the sample paint cards. I thought these would be useful in giving the boxes a more personal room color feel.

This picture is okay, but my Honey lacquered my light plate for me. Its soooo shiny and pretty. I love it.

Finally a piece of peace. I "turned on" my candle and I am sitting in here in the dark with a hint of light. I am so tired. My kids and I went shopping today and I hate to report but I had some pretty bad road rage going on and I said I was gonna get better, but todays group of no good drivers really pushed that button.
